about

Downtime was always no matter what going to be the closer of Time. Fun little fact it's actually named after the Young Justice episode. The theme of that episode was when you're on your own what do you do with your time. It felt like I was saying goodbye to the old version of myself that was constantly worry ridden. As the closer to Shoeglazed as well as the album I had to end things on a semi positive note, it's hopefully but still not fully confident in the next steps.

The phrase "See you on the other side" is used or referenced in a lot of other JayWood songs (Up & Down, Some Days, Pop Dream) and it's the last song on the Somber Summer EP and the first words spoken on Downtime. I feel like this song is like "passing of the torch" it's the end of an era. It's a goodbye, it's the leap of faith, it's the reality check, it's the resolve of all the themes through the album. Conceptually it's right after the leap of faith taken in Moon Cats, it's unsure what's on the other side of it but it goes that road anyways because it's needed.

All these songs are very much connected. Everything i've ever written is connected. As a person who has a really hard time being vulnerable and opening up, I've been trying to find a way to tell this story about myself in the only way I knew how which was through writing songs. Between Bae Sides, Demoing Time, and making Somber Summer there was a 2 year gap where I wasn't writing any new songs whatsoever, all I did was tweak old ideas and expand them with all the knowledge I was getting from putting out music.

If you're a bit of a music nerd you can hear things sound better from Some Days to Somber Summer, from maybe mid 2016 to 2017 I wrote all the songs on Bae Sides, Time and Somber Summer were done so all I wanted to do then was make a super trippy interconnected series of concepts referencing one another as well as adding to this on going story of self

lyrics

Lyrics

See you on the otherside
Guess that's where I wanna be
I know i'm always wasting time
It's not hard to see

It's too confusing on my mind
Yet it's always around
I'm losing all but hope inside

And I know, it's insane
But I hope, maybe one day
Oh one day~ one day~ I hope maybe one day~

I hope i'm gonna get it right
Cause all i'm losing is time~
It seems it's always right behind
And abusing this life

It's too confusing on my mind
Yet it's always around
I'm losing all but hope inside

And I know, it's insane
But I hope, maybe one day
Oh one day~ (repeat)
